Attack on the fortress of Tanar'ri Lord Kostchtchie and Frost Lord Jukrel Grave

Day 153 October 2, 1005
Raven, Damien and Blindhelm teleport, Zachery and Bellam teleport back to the Mudship. Re-memorize spells, redo stoneskins with charm monster. Set out that morning. Zachery, Raven and Damien leave the mudship (ring invisible) to the fortress. Approach to within 200 yards of the fortress requires 14 rounds of flying movement. Half way to the fort, flying patrol passes overhead. Party freezes and takes cover. A dragon cry is heard, screeching over the forest. Things become unusually quiet the round after. Party uses two teleport spells to go back to the boat. Wait it the following morning. Evening cast stoneskins. Raven SS6, Damien SS9, Zachery SS9.
Threesome proceeds again to the fort morning of day 154. Arrive 200yds out after 14rds of travel, the fortress covered in mist. Given the size of the mist, it is probably magical in nature. Raven's sword, Nightwatcher, only penetrated darkness, so the morning mist obscuring the fortress remains thick to the eye. The forest is eerily silent, just a slight wind, which moves the mist around the fortress west to east, whispers thru the dark pines. The ground is cold and damp, a mixed cover of trace snow, pine needles, fallen tree debris and rock. Past 7am, hour after sunrise.

1 Protection from normal missiles for Raven and Zachery (11 & 10 turns)
2 Diminutions on each, foot and a half size. (55 & 50 rounds)
3 Damien dusts of disappearance the trio. (17 turns) One total application used.
4 Resist colds cast (10 & 9 rounds)
5 Prayer spells for both cast (10 & 9 rounds).
6 Tongues spells for both cast (1 turn each). Damien takes a good high point position at tree line and edge of the mist. Visibility limited to 30-60yds, forest line 20 yards away from fortress.
7-8 Trio approaches within 30yds aerially to position level with a tower outpost.
9 Charm monster spells, each to one frost giant guard is cast. Saving throws 8 for 14HD, minus -2 to prayer, both fail.
10 Duo makes a flying sweep past the two charmed frost giant guards, "scratch your nose" . Giants scratch their noses.
11 Duo approaches another frost giant guard.
12 Both cast charm monster on same individual. Save 8(-2). Giant makes both saves.
13 Both sweep by for "scratch your nose" issuance. He jumps and swipes a the sound of the voices, then sounds the alarm with a boulder thrown down into the main complex below.
14-16 Complex goes on "red alert". Prayer spells expire. Tongues spells expire.
Flying disturbances are seen in the mist.
17-32 Trio reunites and flies back to the Mudship.

Rest and rememorization begins.

13 Duo closes to collar of giants, in close speaking conditions. "When your leader Jukrel calls a meeting in the next couple of days, and an attack insues, attack any creatures surrounding Kostchtchie...and in the case Kostchtchie is not present, you will attack the most powerful creatures that show resistance to the attack... speak to no one of this."
14-29 Trio reunites and head back to the mudship.
30 Raven plants Nightwatcher sword at the edge of the riverbank for detection of hostile creatures within 60ft. (Had done so on several occasions along trip) None noticed within effect.
31 Trio dives to the ship.

Mudship moves to a new location a half mile up the river. Once all is secure, rest and rememorization begins.

Day 154 - one hour past sunrise.

Flying disturbances are seen in the mist coming towards the tower. Trio reunited teleports back to the Mudship.

Raven, after three days of scouting out the fortress, returns to Diescroth via teleport.
Raven leaves a mission for Skell: contact the house of Magus Demontra Meyr n Mindel of the Order of the Eclipse, and arrange the purchase of a 5th level domination spell.
After a good shit-shower-shave, Raven uses the Cage-Rod to transport himself to the
"Carnelian's Demiplane". After appearing in the first sanctuary, and heading to the entry-way to make his way across the sands under and orange sky to the second sanctuary, Raven notices movement in the path before him... a fly spell is used cross the gap. The key-sphere portal, opened by Helm, is waiting for Raven's arrival at the Allow charm - substitute tanar'ri - encircle and kill. Polysforms to giant and verbeeg.
DM NOTES - Dragons continue air attacks - Kostchtchie continues the outdoor patrol alone. Second sanctuary. Raven returns to Mudship.

17 Prayer spells expire. Tongues spells expire. Charmed giant* offers a handshake, and Raven accepts. Red alert is called by the FG*, hill giant strikes Raven with a ceramic projectile, which breaks - spilling a crimson red sweet almost rotten smelling liquid on him. The verbeegs mutter a bit, and somehow dispel the rest of Raven's invisibility. Raven and Zachery teleport back to the Mudship. Damien heads back via flight.
Raven casts a fabricate spell directly from his spellbook to transform beer into a pure rubbing alcohol and begins scrubbing himself and equipment to disinfect of red dye.

Day 156
In the morning, Raven and Damien take position, 50ft above forest floor invisibly in the last known area of the tanar'ri patrol. In two hours, no patrols appear. Damien spend the rest of the day searching for the tanar'ri patrol - two areas of past tanar'ri presence are found. Killing sites of local herds, and evidence of a bloody feeding, both several days old, are located.


Day 157
Damien and Raven continue search for tanar'ri patrol. Early the first day, at a position in the trees, the duo waits. 4 hours later, seven figures appears on the Nightwatcher "radar" - Raven declares teleport, and Damien watches for detect invis. identification. As the targets close to under 30ft, they are identified as ogre magi. Raven teleports back to Mudship - % OK. Mudship moves to a new location a half mile up the river.
